Sadili team reaches the final in the Basketball charity event

Sadili Oval basketball team barely lost this month's Entertainment with Fun for Charity (EFC) tournament with 24 – 23 against Far East. The team however did not finish the match without remarkable score points.  This being the first EFC tournament in 2016, the turn up was huge and a total of ten teams registered for the same. The event took place at the Nyayo National Stadium Basketball Gymnasium on Saturday, 4^th, June 2016.

The players were among the teams in pool B and they managed to put a record of 42 – 11 in the battle against CBA before qualifying for the final match. Other teams in pool B included; Sunrise, MKB and Far East. Pool A teams included; Riara, Imara All Stars, Raptors, Wolf Pack and EFC.

The Sadili’s own passionate basketball player and coach, Mr. Robert Bosire said that the boys have not had their training sessions for over a month due to school – related and individual tight schedule but he expressed his joy towards the battle team members fought through to the final.

“I cannot complain in any way for my team not emerging the winners, it has been a fun-fulfilled day as well as a platform for us to directly participate in this noble course,” said Robert.

The main event sponsor was SportPesa and Homeboyz Radio. Other partner organizations included; Performers Rights Society of Kenya , ‪‎Nairobi Bottlers, St. Johns Ambulance among others. The event kicked off at 10am in the morning and this year’s main focus project is sponsoring a lady called Rita from Korogocho who cleared her secondary education and qualified to join the University of Nairobi for higher learning but is not able to raise school fees.

Nonini, co-organizer and celebrity musician, said “This event is beyond just giving food and clothes to the less fortunate, which is common across charity events.” He added that Entertainment with Fun for Charity (EFC) is looking towards expanding its charitable activities to more Childrens’ Homes beyond those they have supported which include Bondeni Children's Home in Kitengela, Filomena (Umoja), Angels Center (Limuru), Colour Kwa Face Foundation and ABC Childrens Home (Huruma) and Baby Blessing Children's Home in Kayole. 

Other celebrities who attended the event included KTN’s Straight Up presenter Cheroo and DJ KayTrixx, DJ Bash of Homeboyz.

The Kes. 200 entry fee paid on the day went towards Ms. Rita’s education, the gymnasium had over 500 people watching the tournament. Kes. 50,000 out of the KES.100, 000 awarded to the winning team also goes to the same kitty. Kes 20,000 was awarded to the Runners Up, Sadili Oval. Masaku Sparks won the ladies competition, bagging Kes. 10,000.

The event ended at 10.30 in the night after the awards ceremony. Next event is scheduled for 25^th, June 2016.

Malezi Bball qualifies for Langata District Finals and County!

Sadili's Malezi Hawks today qualified for Langata District Secondary Schools Sports Association finals after trouncing Sunshine Secondary in the semi-finals. Says Coach Amoko, "This was an exciting moment as a majority of the team are new young recruits averaging 14 years old, and just beginning to feel their game in basketball. We are still building a team for the future. What happens at the finals will just be another chance to build our game, so it won't matter whether we win or lose". Well done Malezi!

Malezi Takes Early Lead At County Basketball Championships

The Malezi Varsity team showed just why they were District Champions of Lang’ata, playing two games and winning both, against Pumwani and Our Lady of Fatima, respectively.

Sadili Basketball was at Railways Club, Nairobi for the first day of the Nairobi County Championships, to support Malezi High, the resident high school team. Top District Teams from around Nairobi showed up to compete for the title and the opportunity of representing their schools, districts and themselves at the National level.

The first bout was against Pumwani School, in which the Malezi varsity team scored 49-points to their 09-points in a smooth victory for the top guns.

In the second game of the day the Malezi Varsity team went out with enthusiasm and purpose, going up 10 quick points in the first 3-mins of the game and never lost steam. They continued their exhibition of skills and teamwork by finishing the game 53-11, in Malezi fashion.

Zack Okong'o Selected For Basketball Without Borders

Malezi Captain and Sadili Talent Training Academy student, Zack Okong'o Basil, was recently selected by the Kenya Basketball Federation as one of two players to represent Kenya at the Basketball Without Borders Training Camp to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 30th August to 2nd September 2012. Says 6ft 4' Zack, who plays Shooting Guard, "This is a great opportunity for me, I promise to do my best to prepare and be able to represent myself, my school and my country to the best of my ability". Zack's Coach Joseph Amoko, who was very pleased with the selection and said, "Zack is within the right age bracket required for this camp, and has already proved himself, leading his team to the Provincial Play-offs in March".

Malezi Bball Qualify For Quarterfinals

Malezi School today mauled over Muhuri Muchiri 58 - 24, Light Academy 60-19 and Moi Forces Academy 58-25, to qualify for the Provincial Schools Sports Association quarterfinals. This will be the third time in the last 3 years to for the team to qualify. Hopefully this year, Malezi will make the next step to semi-finals as she had done four years ago. Kudos Boys!

Malezi Performs At Buruburu Basketball Open

Malezi School beat all opposition to reach the finals of the Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association's (NSSA) Buruburu Open 2012. Once again, they showed that they will fight to reach the final four in this year's provincial games, when they pipped former national champions, Aquinas, 42-29 and tournaments favourites Upperhill A 25 - 14, on their way to meeting their nemesis, the UNICEF-sponsored and well-heeled Upperhill B, where they lost 31-39 in a close encounter. Says Lino Manyuel for the team, "We have almost nothing, but we showed that basketball is the game that makes all equal, if you believe in yourself, you can make a difference". Zack Okong'o won the MVP Award.

Malezi School edged out Alliance B 23-17 to set up a shock defeat of favorites, UNICEF-sponsored Upperhill “A” 28-15 in the semi-finals, at the season’s Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association’s Basketball Season Opener held on the 21^st and 22^nd of January 2012 at Upperhill School. Although losing against Upperhill “B” in the finals 34-48, Malezi showed that they will be a serious team to reckon with, as schools prepare to compete to reach the finals of the national ball games this term. Malezi Captain, Zack Okong’o Basil, was voted Most Promising Player, with 13 points to his credit

18 Sep 2011 Celebrated NBA Coach Joby Wright Visits Sadili

Celebrated NBA Coach Joby Wright was at Sadili Oval Sports Academy today on his second training session for select players of Malezi School and Sadili Talent Training Academy. Coach Wright, who has been in the country on a coaching mission under an NBA Spriteball camp and tournament at Nyayo Stadium from Thursday, and in which Malezi won the Schools category over the competition weekend, said that he decided to take time to work with the boys because he had noted their committment to basketball and school, and that he hoped to follow their progress for the next few years. Players who were selected for special mentoring included Zack Okong'o, Lino Manyiel, John Madol and Emmanuel Atega. 

Coach Wright is best known as Head Coach/Director of Competitive Play 2000-2001 for the famous Harlem Globetrotters, when they won vs. Metro State University-NCAA Division II National Champion and Purdue University-3 Time Big Ten Champion (in the 90's).

Amongst other top jobs coaching at NCAA Division I level for many years, are Head Coach at University of Wyoming Cowboys, and Assistant Coach at Indiana University (where he worked under famous Coach Bob Knight). Coach Wright was Head Basketball Coach, Miami University, Oxford Ohio for 3-years, where he posted an excellent overall Record at Miami: 61-29. He took the Miami Valley Championship, beating Xavier, Cincinnati, and Dayton (3-0) for the first time in 25 years,  was third placed, Mid-American Conference in 1990-91 after making an NCAA First Round Appearance 1990-91. They then took first place in Mid-American Conference, Conference Co-Champs, NIT Final 8, 1992-93, beating Ohio State- First for the time in 93 years, first round NIT at OSU, 1992-93. He was voted mid-American Conference Coach of the Year 1992-93 1991-92 with a record: 23-8, Coach Joby Wright holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, a Masters of Science, Recreation and Administration and Master of Science in Athletic Counselling/Recreational Sports Programming at Indiana University.

He is currently on contract with the NBA Africa to develop basketball in the Royal Bofakeng Province in South Africa. On this visit, he was accompanied by John Manyo-Plange of NBA Africa

14 August 2011 NBA Star Glen Rice Visits Sadili Oval Basketball

Sadili Oval Basketball Academy players had a wonderful surprise when, world famous NBA basketball player, Glen Rice (rtd), landed at their court during a quiet Sunday practice session. LA Lakers supporter and Malezi School's 3rd Man, Zack Okong'o exclaimed, "Its unbelievable, who would have thought that such great people can come to see such simple people like us, now I know that anything is possible." Glen spent about 40 minutes at the simple court, training the players and giving each of them his thoughts on how to improve. Amadou Fall, V-P NBA in Africa said that he was impressed and hoped to get more linkages for the academy and players in the near future. Says Academy Director Liz Odera, "I was so excited to have such wonderful visitors, I forgot to take pictures! Seriously? I have talked about one day something like this happening years ago, and when it began to happen, I was swept up in the excitement like a kid". 
Rice played college basketball for the University of Michigan Wolverines for four seasons (1985–1989), where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,442 points. He led Michigan to the 1989 NCAA Men's Division 1 Basketball Championship, scoring an NCAA-record 184 points in tournament play, a record that still stands. Rice played in 1000 games in the NBA from 1989-2004. He was a three-time All-Star who finished with career averages of 18.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 1,000 regular-season games with the Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. He finished with 18,336 career points. Rice peaked as a member of the Charlotte Hornets in the 1996-1997 season when he was third in the league in scoring behind only Michael Jordon and Karl Malone, averaging 26.8 points per game. Rice played in 55 career playoff games, averaging 16.1 points and 4.5 rebounds. He averaged 16.3 points in three All-Star games. Rice earned an NBA championship ring as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2000 NBA Championship vs. the Indiana Pacers.
