3rd seeded Sadili's Amadi Kagoma partnered with Guy Orly Iradukunda (BUR) to power their way through to the finals, in the ITF U18-ranked 4th Kenya International Junior Championships in Nairobi, beating Ginzburg/Kukharenko (RUS), Migliano (ITA)/Savio (IND) and Slobodkins (LAT)/Turosienski(Pol). The finals set them up against to seeds Abohabaga (EGY)/Pervolarakis (CYP), losing 5-7, 2-6.

Malezi School today mauled over Muhuri Muchiri 58 - 24, Light Academy 60-19 and Moi Forces Academy 58-25, to qualify for the Provincial Schools Sports Association quarterfinals. This will be the third time in the last 3 years to for the team to qualify. Hopefully this year, Malezi will make the next step to semi-finals as she had done four years ago. Kudos Boys!

Malezi School boys continued with their march to top in the group stages of the Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSA) Schools League, taking advantage of mistakes in ball handling by national school Lenana, to win 69 - 11. Malezi coach Amoko stated his disappointment with the management of the match, where the referee arrived an hour late, and only got to officiate in the final quarter, thereby leaving his substitute to carry the bulk of the work, and as a result, many fouls were allowed to take place. The top scorers were Zack Okongo and Lino Manyuel (both 15 points each)

Malezi School beat all opposition to reach the finals of the Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association's (NSSA) Buruburu Open 2012. Once again, they showed that they will fight to reach the final four in this year's provincial games, when they pipped former national champions, Aquinas, 42-29 and tournaments favourites Upperhill A 25 - 14, on their way to meeting their nemesis, the UNICEF-sponsored and well-heeled Upperhill B, where they lost 31-39 in a close encounter. Says Lino Manyuel for the team, "We have almost nothing, but we showed that basketball is the game that makes all equal, if you believe in yourself, you can make a difference". Zack Okong'o won the MVP Award.

17 Jan 2012 Former student trains tennis lovers at Sadili Oval

Sadili Oval Sports Academy in Lang’ata, Nairobi, was a hive of activities as the young and old gathered to gain tennis lessons from an alumni. South Africa-based and former Sadili Oval and Malezi School tennis ace Hassan Ndayashimiye made the practice session possible. Ndayashimiye, who left Sadili Oval on a tennis scholarship to South Africa four years ago, trained players. The players involved those at Sadili Oval and also from neighbouring schools. The sessions involved ball control, court runs, hits, positive thinking and other fitness levels.

The Burundian said he saw it possible to come and give back to Sadili that nurtured his tennis career on top of a prestigious scholarship that he was awarded when he was very young. "The training I got at Sadili has enabled me to win championships in South Africa. Furthermore, I have reached the Wimbledon main draw because of the skills I learnt here," said Ndayashimiye, 17, who was accompanied by his sponsor Kassie Mcilvaine.

"It was nice being here at least for a day to impart what I have learnt to these children. My advice is that they should be focused and be ready to work very hard towards achieving their goals in tennis," added Ndayashimiye, who is currently ranked 27 in World Junior category. He recently reached the third round in an African tennis event in Morocco before moving to win a championship in Tunisia.

He says the greatest challenge to many young upcoming players is ability to amass points. "It’s (amassing points) a tedious process that needs discipline and perseverance, one needs to attend as many ranking tournaments as possible," he added.

Sadili Oval CEO Liz Odera congratulated Ndayashimiye for giving back to the centre that developed him. "It’s great to have him (Ndayashimiye) back, he started training here at age nine. He is now going places. Training in South Africa and Europe has made him even sharper," Odera said.

Meanwhile, Sadili Oval Centre has many tournaments and activities lined up in their calendar this year, beginning with the Smashers Challenge Cup on January 28.

Sadili OvalSports Academy, in Langata is the center of attraction for the next ten days,as star-studded professionals work with locals to develop some of the region’sbest talent in Football, Dabce and Tennis.

BillMurray, former coach of Venus and Serena Williams and 19 national junior starsis in the country to work with Dr. Liz Odera training 34 select upcomingjuniors from the region. The players, aged between 10 and 15 years, have benselected from 77 applicants and will receive video analysis, power production,improvement of stroke production and tactical training at an internationalperformance level. Selected players are from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Norway,UK and Scotland.

FormerBrazil international player turned coach, William Moura, is also at SadiliOval, courtesy of the Embassy of Brazil, to run a soccer training camp thatbegan on Monday 5th December 2011. The camp, which is part of an ongoingpartnership between the Embassy of Brazil and Sadili Oval Soccer Academy, willsee a talented squad of 80 boys and girls, mainly from poor communities ofKibera and Korogocho, receive expert training.

Sadili willalso be introducing Dance as a new discipline, with the arrival of reknowneddancer and choreographer, Ofelia de la Mola of New York -based Dancescores www.danscores.com, where she is theArtistic Director, will run the Dance Camp together with her partner, Rebecca Woods.She is expected to work with 62 local girls and boys, and prepare them for adance show that will take place on 19th December at Sadili. She will alsorun two dance workshops at Riverside Katwekera Village in Kibera.

Ofelia was born and raisedin Mexico. She moved to NY in 1995 thanks to a scholarship from MexicanFoundation FONCA. She received her MFA in choreography and BFA in DancePerformance from Purchase College, State University of New York. Ofeliaestablished the NY based danscores by Ofelia Loret de Mola in 2003. Since then,the company has taught a two-week workshop in Kosovo and has performed inSpain; The states of Yucatan, Campeche and Oaxaca in Mexico, and in New York atvenues such as Joyce SoHo/Celebrate Mexico Now Festival, the MetropolitanMuseum of Art, dancenOw/NYC at DTW, WAXworks at University Settlement, WaveRising Series, the d.u.m.b.o. Dance Festival, The COOL NY Festival, The PuffinRoom, and HERE Arts Center. She has choreographed for Theater under theDirection of Dean Irby, and was a speaker at Hunter College during theirExploring Opportunities. In 2006, internationally known concert pianist TianJiang commissioned her to create a work for touring. She is Co-Founder andCurator of the annual Reverb Dance Festival, which takes place at the AileyCitigroup Theatre. Her work has been reviewed by the New York Times, Gay CityNews, the Village Voice, CNN International, Telemundo, Fieldwork by Eva YaaAsantewaa, El Milenio, and Por Esto! Mexico. As a member of ArtistAccess, she hasperformed at the Woodhull Medical Center and has been featured in CNNInternational, Dance Magazine, The Daily News, Telemundo, and El Diario, LaPrensa. She was invited to represent Hispanic Artists in a publicity campaignfor Infiniti Cars that took place in Miami, Los Angeles and New York. As aperformer she has had the pleasure of working with Aszure and Artists, JulianBarnett, Stefanie Nelson and the Wendy Osserman Dance Company.

Rebecca Woods received her trainingfrom the University of Colorado in Boulder, and Marymount Manhattan Collegewhere she graduated with a degree in Dance and Communications. She hasperformed with the Juilliard Opera Company, LKB Dance, Chasla, StephenKaplowitz, Ali Kenner dance, and Eidolon Ballet in Concert. She is working withAdele Myers, and is grateful for Ofelia's friendship. Rebecca teaches Kundaliniyoga throughout the city. She is on faculty at Ballet Academy East.

4 November 2011 First Rugby School Opens In Nairobi

Grenoble University Rugby Team were thefirst to visit and run training for aspiring young players, when the Kenya’sfirst Rugby School was opened today, Friday 4^th November 2011, atSadili Oval Sports Academy in Langata. With initial support from the Embassy ofFrance and French nationals in Kenya, the partnership is expected to develop astrong grassroots rugby that will feed into the Kenya Rugby Football Union’snational programmes. In addition, trainingwill be carried out under experienced coach, Jérôme Afonsi, who isbased at the French School, and 6 locals will receive training to become youthcoaches. All training will be offered free to those who are successfulapplicants. This becomes the first full-time rugby academy in Kenya. France isa strong rugby nation, and recently reached the finals of the World Cup, losingnarrowly to New Zealand.

Sadili Oval Tennis Academy's Henry AYESIGA has been selected to take part The African 14 & Under Masters, of the Confederation of African Tennis, which brings together Africa's best eight boys and eight girls tennisplayers in 2011, following their results in all African 14 & under circuitincluding the African Junior Championships 2011.

The Masterswill be hosted by the Kenyan Lawn Tennis Association and will be held at the Nairobi Club from 4 to 10 December 2011.

For those who perform well, the CAT will offer further assistance by providing travel assistance in order to participate to ITF junior eventsGrade 4 & 5 in2012 as follows:

Henry Ayesiga, who is trained and sponsored by international tennis professional, Dr. Liz Odera, has been at the academy for the last four years, growing his game progressively, while schooling at Malezi School. Ayesiga played four ITF/CAT events in Kenya and Burundi, reaching finals in two and winning two legs, earning him 6th place overall. Sadili Oval Tennis Academy has produced some of East Africa's best, including Hassan Ndayashimiye (Burundi), who now trains at the ITF Centre in Pretoria and played his first Wimbledon and US Open this year and Amadi Kagoma (Burundi), currently number 2 in East Africa.

Meanwhile, Dr. Liz Odera, has just announced interviews for the next candidates to enter the high performance Sadili Oval Talent Training Academy to take place between 12th November and 18th December 2011. Candidates (boys and girls) should be between 12 and 16 years to be considered, and interested in specialising in tennis, basketball, soccer and rugby, as well as quality schooling.

Despite the challenge of continuous rain throughout the weekend, The 5th edition of the Smashers Challenge Cup ended today at Sadili Oval Sports Academy, with new champions in all categories, a sign of new and exciting 2012 season.

In the Boys singles U-12, Nigel Odhiambo beat Davis Matanda and Ronald Omondi 6/2 and 6/2, respectively, to set up a final against Antony Owita, winning 6/2 to take the crown.
The boys U-14 singles saw tight matches at the group stages, with David Mukhwana, Olivier Kigotho, Ricky Omondi and Egill Sigurdson reaching the semi-finals. In the semis: Olivier Kigotho beat Ricky Omondi narrowly 2/6,7/6 7/2, while Egill Sirgurdson won against David Mukhwana 6/3,7/5
In the finals: Egill Sirgurdson commanded the match, punishing Olivier Kigotho 6/4,6/2 to win.
Boys U-16 singles finals saw Amon Muinde beat his twin bother, Robert Kasombo 6/4,6/3, after an easy semi-final win against Egill Sirgudson, who retired early in their match.
The boys under 18 singles was dominated by upcoming player Frank Kinyanjui, who beat Dennis Gakuro 6/4,6/0 and Joseph Ooko   6/1,6/1. Dennis Gakuro beat Joseph Ooko  7/6, 5/7, 10/2 to take second place.
The girls Under-14/16 saw winner Melisa Brown bt Sada Nahimana 6/3,6/3 and Matseka Kithinji 6/1,6/1, while Sada Nahimana bt Matseka Kithinji 6/3,6/1 to take second place.
The Smashers challenge is a Tennis Africa Cup ranking tournament which focuses purely on players who are of intermediate level B. It is recognised by partners UNEP, Professional Tennis Registry and Global Sports Alliance.

Frank Kinyanjui, showed signs of things to come when he beat Kevin Mwangi 2/4, 4/0/ (10-8) to reach the semi-finals of the boys U16 in his first tournament in 4 years. Frank, who was busy with school, has made a come-back to tennis and joined the Sadili Talent Training Academy. His team mate and one of Kenya's fastest developing juniors, Olivier Kigotho, showed that he was not going to be cowed, also reaching the semi-finals of the Boys Under 14 after beating Dennis Moses 1/4, 5/4 (6) 11-9 and Emile Teja 4/1, 4/1, before losing in a tie-break to Petty Andanda 1/4, 4/1 (10/4). In the boys U18, Second seed Jamin Luvembe easily beat Peter Ndungu 4/0, 4/1 to reach the semi-finals, where he met and lost to surprisingly unseeded team mate, Yasin Lila 2/4, 4/1 (10-8). The winning boys teams paraded experienced players who aresome of the best in the region.

They include Kagoma, Ayesige, Kabura and Mbugua who are allcommon figures in regional tennis tournaments. Malezi School, who is trained bythe top regional tennis centre, Sadili Oval Sports Academy in Nairobi, have been national KSSA champions for the last 11 years, defending it again in August 2011.

Malezi ‘A’ dominated the group stage, winning all theirmatches to top their pool with maximum eight points. They beat Oshwal ‘B’,Narok and Lenana with uniform 6-0 scored in first singles round and repeatedthe same in round two, beating the same opponents with yet another 3-0 pointscores. The Sadili Oval Sports Academy on 14^th September2011 hosted a world – class basketball clinic in conjunction with KenyaBasketball Federation, NBA Africa, Malezi College (Department of Sports, Recreation and Physical Education) and the famous basketball brand- Sprite.

Sadili boasts of having been the development platform for some of East Africa's basketball players who now play in the NBA and in the NCAA, honed their skills. The Malezi College also stands tall in being one of the premier institutions offering sports coaching and sports management courses in all sports at an affordable rate to coaches nationwide. Kenya Basketball federation, the nation’s basketballmanaging body is credited for having brought competitive basketball back intoKenya and as a result turned the sport into semi- professional. KBF’sresilience and hard work has attracted the corporate world into the game with teams in within the major leagues.

The clinic at Sadili was run by re-knowned NBA CoachWright and his South African-based NBA Africa counterpart John Manyo-Plange, and attracted a total of 48coaches and referees. With 38 of the coaches being male and the other 10 beingwomen, the facilitating coaches lauded the KBF and Sadili for having brought inwomen in a male dominated sport. Among the key skills taught by Coach Wrightwere offensive performance, defensive performance, player and coach attitude.Perhaps to note the main ingredient of their teachings was work ethic. In thissegment of the clinic delivered by Coach Wright, coaches were exposed to amodule that developed their mindset and also worked on their players’mindset towards the game. ‘The main aim is winning, a player who is notinterested in winning is as good as the bench’- Coach Wright. He wentahead to explain the reason for proper organizing of trainingsessions, prevention of injury and player conditioning within his module. Inconcluding their presentations both Toby Wright and Manyo-Plange expressed optimism in the local coachesbeing able to nurture more youngsters with the learn the skills and as a resultprovide the much needed new crop of players for the international basketballscene. They also expressed their interest in exploring ways to work with Sadili Oval and Malezi College, in the near future, as partners in developing basketball in Kenya. They were impressed by the commitment to sport, player, and facility development in 21 years.

Hot weather, long hours, but no-one is complaining!

Sprite has been in the Kenyan Hoops circles since 2003, creating basketball links between Kenya and the outside world and also offering an avenue for graffiti artists and Kenyan Hip- hop artists to showcase their skills. It is in August 2009 that the Sprite Slam series was officially launched in Kenya and ever since, players and coaches alike have been made to realize that basketball should be approached from a more sophisticated angle. The best of shows was put on display at the University of Nairobi courts on 16^th August 2011. Despite the rain coming down and soaking the courts, the top 40 players as selected by KBF worked extensively to showcase their 3 on 3 skills in front of a charged spectator presence.

Celebrated NBA Coach Joby Wright was at Sadili Oval Sports Academy today on his second training session for select players of Malezi School and Sadili Talent Training Academy. Coach Wright, who has been in the country on a coaching mission under an NBA Spriteball camp and tournament at Nyayo Stadium from Thursday, and in which Malezi won the Schools category over the competition weekend, said that he decided to take time to work with the boys because he had noted their committment to basketball and school, and that he hoped to follow their progress for the next few years. Players who were selected for special mentoring included Zack Okong'o, Lino Manyiel, John Madol and Emmanuel Atega.

Coach Wright is best known as Head Coach/Director of Competitive Play 2000-2001 for the famous Harlem Globetrotters, when they won vs. Metro State University-NCAA Division II National Champion and Purdue University-3 Time Big Ten Champion (in the 90's).

Amongst other top jobs coaching at NCAA Division I level for many years, are Head Coach at University of Wyoming Cowboys, and Assistant Coach at Indiana University (where he worked under famous Coach Bob Knight). Coach Wright was Head Basketball Coach, Miami University, Oxford Ohio for 3-years, where he posted an excellent overall Record at Miami: 61-29. He took the Miami Valley Championship, beating Xavier, Cincinnati, and Dayton (3-0) for the first time in 25 years, was third placed, Mid-American Conference in 1990-91 after making an NCAA First Round Appearance 1990-91. They then took first place in Mid-American Conference, Conference Co-Champs, NIT Final 8, 1992-93, beating Ohio State- First for the time in 93 years, first round NIT at OSU, 1992-93. He was voted mid-American Conference Coach of the Year 1992-93 1991-92 with a record: 23-8, Coach Joby Wright holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, a Masters of Science, Recreation and Administration and Master of Science in Athletic Counselling/Recreational Sports Programming at Indiana University.

He is currently on contract with the NBA Africa to develop basketball in the Royal Bofakeng Province in South Africa. On this visit, he was accompanied by John Manyo-Plange of NBA Africa

The 6^th editionof the 8-Series tennis tournament (the level D tourney for beginner andintermediate level players) took place at Sadili Oval this weekend, with astrong showing from 35 juniors from around the city. In the Under 8 Girls,Lourdel Adera beat Faith Mueni and Belinda Awino 11/4 and 11/4 respectively, totake the winners prize. In the Girls U14, Sasha Taylor overcame initialnervousness which saw her lose 2/4 to Tottie Ball, but acquiring enough pointsfrom Carmine Muinde 4/1 and Natasha Tsimininsky 4/0 to lift the winner’s prize.Tottie Ball took second place after just dropping 1 point aggregate. MaryMonari lifted Pool B, after winning 4/1 and 4/0 against Elizabeth Adhiambo andMary Appalyne, respectively.

Nigel Odhiambo won theBoys Under 10, beating Clyde Adera 11/7 in the finals. Cylde had to go pastHilary Atsango 11/9 to reach the finals. The Boys Under 12 was a tough match,which saw Billy Douglas fight it out with David Mukhwana in the finals,eventually succumbing ¾ to runner up position. Captain Amadi Kagoma led Malezi School and Nairobi Province to successfully defend their Boys and Girls titles at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Games, which ended on the 13th August 2011. Amadi overcame the biggest opposition, pushing Tony Orwa of Central Province to second place. Malezi's Yasin Lila Shabani was third. In the boys doubles, Jamin Luvembe and Richard Ooko proved themselves worthy for the second year running, lifting the title with ease. Says Jamin, "We have been working hard all year, we just needed to keep doing the same".

At the nationals in Kisumu last year, rookies Lorna Bhwejje and Melissa Brown had difficulty keeping it together, and lost the doubles to Central Province at the semis, and it fell to Sakina Nshimirimana and Teresa Odera to work to win the championship trophy. This year, the more determined and confident pair, Lorna and Melissa took every match without dropping a single set, to keep the trophy at Malezi and earn valuable points for Nairobi Province for yet another year.

Captain Amadi's comment was "The standard of tennis has improved a lot, especially amongst the boys. But we have also improved, putting in a lot of effort, and it has paid. Being part of Sadili Talent Training Academy is also a big boost for us, giving us the confidence we need to play at any level. I am very proud to be part of Malezi School, and our team spirit will definitely carry us to perform well again next year". Amadi takes over captaincy from Terry Odera (2010), and will be leading the team into 2012 season. Teresa is a freshman playing varsity tennis in Iowa, USA.

Malezi School have been national champions for 9 years running and now taking their 10th, with successful teams ensuring that they keep winning the championships for Nairobi Province and their school.

8 months into its inception, Sadili Talent Training Academy team comprising of Henry Ayesiga (UG), Shebani Kabura (BDI), John Lutaya (UG), David Nesbitt (USA) and Olivier Kigotho (KE), beat all odds to leave a positive mark at the just ended African 14 and Under Circuit tournaments held in Bujumbura, Burundi. In the 1st tournament, David Nesbitt won his first round match against Iranyumva Jeze (BDI) 6/2, 4/6, 7/6(3) and was then stopped in the second round by seed 3 Shabani Kassalo (BDI). Team mates John Lutaya and youngest team member Olivier Kigotho were unfortunately, drawn against each other in the first round, with Lutaya winning 6-1, 6-0. Kigotho moved on to the backdraw where he won Iranyumva Jeze 7/6, 6/2 to take position 21, while Nesbitt lost to Bill Makoyi (TZ) 3/6, 4/6 to take position 16. Lutaya moved on to second round, where he met and beat Jules Ndibwami (RWA) 6/0, 6/4. In the quarters, he met and lost to top seed Saidi Nkurunzinza quarters, 6/0, 7/5 following a nervous start. Shebani Kabura (seed 2) played John Njau (TZ), a tough encounter 6/3, 1/6, 6/4, then faced Ernest Habiyambere (BDI) 3/6, 6/0, 6/4 to set up a semi-final clash against Henry Ayesiga. Ayesiga (seed 8) overcame Muhamed Omar (BDI) 5/7, 6/4, 6/4 to meet seed 3, Shabani Kassalo (BDI), upsetting him in a close encounter, 2/6, 6/4, 6/3. Team mates Kabura and Ayesiga had to fight it out, with Kabura taking the win 6/7(2), 6/4, 6/2, but losing in the finals to top seed Saidi Nkurunzinza 6/7(5), 3/6. Kabura finished second, Ayesiga 3rd and Lutaaya 8th. In the second tournament, David Nesbitt lost in the first round to Ibrahim Kessy (TZ) 1/6, 3/6, and went ton to reach the semi-finals of the backdraw, losing to Keith Wakatama (ZIM) 1/6, 1/6. Kigotho also lost in the first round and reached the quarters of the backdraw, losing to Musa Juma (BDI) 4/6, 3/6. Lutaya met and beat Ibrahom Kessy 6/1, 6/3 before, once again a quarter-final meeting top seed Saidi Nkurunzinza (BDI) and fighting hard to push him, finally losing in the third set 1/6, 6/4, 4/6. Second seed, Sadili player, Shabano Kabura, beat Aiesha Chikanda (ZIM) 6/1, 6/0 and John Njau (TZ) 7/6(4), 6/4 to meet a revived team mate, Henry Ayesiga, to whom he lost 2/6, 6/3, 1/6 in the semi-finals. A determined Ayesiga, mauled over Djuma Hakizimana (BDI) 6/0, 6/1, Mohamed Omar (BDI) 6/3, 3/6, 62 to get to the semis. In the finals, he worked patiently through the match against Shabani Kassalo (who had also upset top seed Saidi in the semis) to win the crown 7/6(4), 6/1. In the doubles, Nkurunzinza/Shabani remanined unbeatable, grabbing the top berth after making short work of Wakatama/Chikanda 6/3, 6/3, Njau/Uwimana 6/2, 6/2 and Kassalo Mohammed 6/4, 4/6 (8). Lutaya/Ayesiga beat Nganyi/Hakiza 4/6, 6/3 (8) then lost in the semi-finals to Kassalo/Mohammed 2/6, 1/6. All in all, the STTA gathered an impressive number of points, placing them in lead positions from both tournaments.

The final rankings for the Sadili team was: Henry Ayesiga (1), Shabani Kabura (3), John Lutaya (6), David Nesbitt (18) and Olivier Kigotho (22).

6 August 2011 Aicho Is Top Scorer At PEEPOOPLE Tournament

Sadili soccer academy featured in three categories at the tournament : U 17, U14 and the ladies U15 categories.

The U 17 having had to play in the school games were caught red handed and could not make it even to the quarters finals they lost their first match to Morefire FC 2-0 before going for a draw of 0-0 with Lexus which made them wave bitterly to the tournament.

The U14 category played three matches before landing to quarters where their journey ended in their first debut they beat red arrows 6-1 this was were Anthony Omondi made a heart trick before Dennis Isiau netted 2 goals and Eric Onyango had his name also in the score list. In the second match they beat Catalands 2-0 then drew 1-1 with Kigulu FC both goals being scored by Eric Onyango who was the captain of the side. In the quarter finals Sadili met with the resurgent home team Morefire who drubbed them 3-1 a match that saw the fans getting annoyed with the referee for being one sided causing the loss of Sadili however all the fans and officials appreciated the game that was displayed by Sadili from the start of the tournament to their exit.

In the ladies category Sadili queens shone out showing their pride and due to overconfidence lost in their finals in penalty shoot out to their bitter rivals Shofco Queens. In the first encounter Sadili met with Elimu girls whom they thrashed 2-0 goals .the second match Sadili were less players in the pitch with their confidence the hammered shofco queens 2-0 this led to them landing strait to semi finals.

In the semi finals Sadili met with Barcelona their home tough with the pride to retain Sadili queens showered the home team 2 – 0 to reach the finals. In the finals Sadili being over confident and not knowing that shofco had gone for a long search coming with all guest players , the match ended 0-0 score. Even through Sadili displayed all the techniques swinging the ball left and right and all the tricks but schofos defence was a wall to crack this led to penalty shootout where Sadili were send home crying with a 5-4 score. However Sadili retained the best player of the tournament who was Jemimah Akinyi alias “macheda”and the top scorer Eveline Aicho who is also the teams captain. Sadili was also congratulated for their discipline and for having clean and well kitted players. The tournament officials were also moved by the confidence of the teams coach who encouraged his players to face the challenge and play even though they were few.

8th August 2011 Sadili Soccer at Left Foot League Update

Sadili soccer is playing U 13 and U 15 categories at our first Left Foot Soccer League. In the ongoing U15 category Sadili team is in the "group of death", Group A. Sadili first played Shangilia from Kangemi, in a tough opening encounter, with Sadili requiring the magic of Eric Onyango who scored twice before Jesse Mwenda applied his swiftness and Kevin Owino, his intelligence, to thrash their opponents 4 – 1. In the second encounter Sadili Soccer Academy played Milimani Primary, a tactical game which worked for about 10 minutes, before the impatient and roaring Sadili team took lead with a culminating shot from Jesse Mwenda with John Peter closing the door, to end the match 2 – 0. The third match was a walkover since Lavington primary were unable to compose a team.

The U13 team is drawn in Pool B and, after playing two matches, they are lying 4th in the group with four points. In their first match, Sadili played Millimani Primary winning 4-2 from the artistic play of Levis Osena scoring a hat trick and Evans Otieno coming in from the bench to put his name in the score sheet with a clinical finish from a superb pass of Dennis Isiau. In the second match it was a battle of nerves where the unbeaten Victoria Academy had to take on a tactical Sadili Soccer Academy but it was Sadili who saw the net first. It took Antony Omondi used his swift left foot well to separate the two sides with a distance shoot that went straight into the far corner of the net thus giving Sadili the lead in the first half. Coming into the second half a controversial substitute player of Victoria academy destroyed the Sadili's organized midfield and went for an equalizer the match ended in a draw of 1-1 though it was under protest match and Sadili can be awarded the point if the organisers fail to approve the age of the substitute player who gave them the draw.

Sadili Oval Basketball Academy players had a wonderful surprise when, world famous NBA basketball player, Glen Rice (rtd), landed at their court during a quiet Sunday practice session. LA Lakers supporter and Malezi School's 3rd Man, Zack Okong'o exclaimed, "Its unbelievable, who would have thought that such great people can come to see such simple people like us, now I know that anything is possible." Glen spent about 40 minutes at the simple court, training the players and giving each of them his thoughts on how to improve. Amadou Fall, V-P NBA in Africa said that he was impressed and hoped to get more linkages for the academy and players in the near future. Says Academy Director Liz Odera, "I was so excited to have such wonderful visitors, I forgot to take pictures! Seriously? I have talked about one day something like this happening years ago, and when it began to happen, I was swept up in the excitement like a kid".
Rice played college basketball for the University of Michigan Wolverines for four seasons (1985–1989), where he became the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,442 points. He led Michigan to the 1989 NCAA Men's Division 1 Basketball Championship, scoring an NCAA-record 184 points in tournament play, a record that still stands. Rice played in 1000 games in the NBA from 1989-2004. Sadili players performed well at the just concluded first leg of the ITF/CAT (Confederation of African Tennis) U14 tournament held in Bujumbura, Burundi, with 13 year old Shebani Kabura reaching the finals after beating compatriot Henry Ayesiga 3/6 7/5 6/3 in a closely contested semi-final, and Rwanda's top junior Habiyambere Ernest 3/6 6/0 6/4. Shebani later lost in the finals to top seed Nkurunziza Saidi of Burundi 5/7 3/6. Henry was winner at the last ITF/CAT U14 event in Nairobi in April this year, had caused an earlier upset in the quater-finals, beating seed 3 Shabani Kassalo (Burundi) 3/6 7/5 6/4. Other Sadili players, John Dennis Lutaya and Olivier Kigotho met in the first round, with John taking the match 6/1 6/0. Lutaya went on to upset seed 4 Jules Ndibwami 6/0 6/4, advancing to his first quarterfinals this year, where he was stopped by tournament winner and top seed Nkurunziza Saidi (Bur) 6/0 7/5. Newcomer David Nesbitt (USA) won his first round match against Iranyuma Jeze (Bur) 6/2 4/6 7/6(3), then lost to seed 2 Shabani Kassalo (Bur) 1/6 1/6.

The Sadili Teen Tournament ended today with Malezi Boys showing why they are the upwardly mobile school team to watch in Nairobi, beating Mennonites 51-39 to lift the Under 18 Boys. Malezi defended well, with Rogers Ochieng making a couple of important steals, and, by half-time they were leading 37 to 19 points. The post-players Lino Manyuel assisted by Emmanuel Atega 15 and 12 points, respectively. Assists from Point Guards Zack Okong'o made free throws to grab 7 points, and John Madol who came off the bench to score four vital points. A disappointed Mennonites Captain, Abdi Hakim Omar, said that they accepted defeat, but hoped to revenge this game again in the near future.

The Boys Under 14 was a round robin event:

Mennonites vs. Sadili 20 - 19. Sadili came from down at half -time 14 -9, playing from defence and making use of their post player Isiah Ater, to score 12 points for the team.

Tom Munyama fought hard but lost. By half-time it was 12-5 to Mennonites. Neville Ochieng of TM made 9 points for his team, but due to time, the game ended with them trailing by 2 points, giving Mennonites a win.

Kenyan tennis is due to grow in leaps and bounds, judging from the results of the Boys Under 14s category, in the just concluded East Africa Junior Open which was dominated by Sadili's Kibera Tennis program. Wycliffe Okenye met Ronex Otieno in the finals after beating Moses Ateka 6/3 6/1 and Sylvester Juma 6/1 6/3, respectively in the semi-finals. Ronex won the final match 6/4, 6/0. In the boys U12s, Ricky Omondi of Victoria Tennis beat Billy Douglas (UK) 6/3 to set up a quick final against his team mate John Onyango, winning 6/2. Onyango played and won against Sebastien Width (Nor) 6/2 to reach the finals. The boys 12s doubles saw Billy Douglas/Ricky Omondi win against David Mukhwana/John Onyango 6/2.
The tournament which is sponsored by Carnivore, Sarova Hotels and Professional Tennis Registry amongst others, at Sadili Oval Sports Academy in Langata, saw Boys U16 dominated once again by Burundi players, with Ishaka Abdul grabbing a difficult win against Hashim Nintunga 4/6 7/5 10/4, but the most exciting result in this category was the upset of seed Zuberi Moussa, who lost to Kenya's own 14 year old Amon Muinde 0/6, 0/6. Amon, who later lost to finalist Hashim Nintunga 1/6 0/6 in the semi-finals, says that he is pleased with his performance, and expects to perform well next year. Martin Wambua of Mombasa Sports Club took 3rd place. It was a Kenya vs. Burundi boys U16 doubles final, with Martin Wambua/Frank Kinyanjui losing to Hashim Nintunga/Abdul Ishaka 2/6 4/6
The girls U16s saw a new star, 14 year old Aaliyah Bashir (KE), who beat top seed Katarina Karanja in a close 7/6 7/6 final, while Emily Stonewigg (UK) beat Linda Amondi of Kisumu 6/4, 6/3 in the girls U14 and Tottie Ball (UK) took on Annabel Shaw (KE) 7/6 in the girls U12. In a Kenya vs UK encounter, Annabel Shaw partnered with Linda Amondi to lift the GirlsU12 doubles, winning 6/4 against Emil Stonewigg/Tottie Ball 6/4.

Karen Club Tennis Captain Lynette with team from Burundi

The Smasher’s Junior Tennis Challenge Cup ended today at Karen Country Club, with Burundi dominating the boys under 16 and under 19 categories. Ishaka Abdul beat Hashim Nintonga 6/2, 6/3 to lift the crown, while Zuberi Moussa overcame Frank Kinyanjui of Kenya 6/2, 6/3 to take third position. In the Boys Under 19, East African top junior, Amadi Kagoma (BUR) beat Tanzania’s Yassin Lila 6/2, 6/3, while Jamin Luvembe (KE) beat compatriot Richard Ooko 6/0 to take third place.

Aaliyah Bashir (KE) beat all opposition to lift the girls Under 16, blanking out Lorna Bhwejje6/0, 6/4 in the finals and Melissa Brown (TZ) 6/3, 6/0. In the Boys Under 12, Dennis Moses (ZIM) beat Aahil Saleh (KE) 6/4, 6/3 to take top spot, with Ricky Omondi (KE) taking third position after hitting Binal Jayasinghe. In the girls Under 14, upcoming Kisumu junior, Linda Janet Amondi, narrowly beating Siobhan Shaw (UK) 6/4, 7/5 in a closely contested match. Jessica Humphries (UK) was third, after losing to Siobhan Sahw 4/6, 6/4.

This tournament, which was hosted for the third year running at Karen Country Club, is a warm-up event for the East Africa Junior Open, which will take place next weekend at Sadili Oval. Both tournaments form part of the Tennis Africa Cup, and players benefit from regional ranking points. The tournament attracted 54 players and 74 entries from children from different parts of East Africa, Southern Africa and Europe.

Siobhan Shaw fights to take second place

The Smashers Junior Tennis Challenge Cup, a warm up event for the East Africa Safari Junior Open, began today at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi, with 74 entries in the boys and girls, U12, U14, U16 and U19 year categories. The tournament, which was run under auspices of the Tennis Africa Cup, was attended by players of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Norway, Russia and Sri Lanka. This is a warmup tournament for the EA Safari Junior Open to take place at Sadili Oval next weekend.

In the girls U12:

Totti Ball (UK) bet Annabel Shaw (UK) 6/2 to advance to finals, where she lost to Sneha Kotecha 0/6. Sneha had an easy run, trouncing Izzy Stichbury 6/0 in the semis.

In the Boys U12:

Top seed, Binal Jayasinghe (SRI) beat Sean Grant (UK) 6/3, while Sebastien Width (NOR) eased past Harry Stichbury 6/3 to advance to th quartrfinals. On th lower half of the draw, David Mukhwana (KE) upset second seed Billy Douglas (UK) 6/3, while Ricky Omondo of Kisumu (KE) had a close win of 6/5 against Paul Mclellan (UK) to reach the quarterfinals.

Ronex Otieno beat Antony Otieno (KE) 4/6, 6/1, 10/5 to reach the quarterfinals, where he suffered shock defeat in the hands of team mate Wycliff Okenye (KE)

In the semi-finals, third seed Josephat Garo beat first seed David Nesbitt 6/1, 6/1 to set up a finals tomorrow against Wycliffe Okenye, who shocked Sylvester Juma 6/1, 5/6, 10/4.

Hashim Nintunga (BUR) was on a winning spree, Shil Kotcha (KE) in the second round 5/7, 1/6 then Robert Kasombo 6/0, 6/1 in the quarterfinals, before losing to Ihaka Abdul (BUR) 2/6, 3/6. He then beat Frank Kinyanjui to take 3rd place. Ishaka Abdul (BUR) beat Amon Nzuki 7/6, 6/3 to set up a finals against compatriot Zuberi Moussa tomorrow.

Linda Jane Amondi of Kisumu (KE) lifted the crown after a resounding win against Siobhan Shaw (UK) winning 6/4 7/5 in the finals, with Jessica Hmphries taking up third place.

In Boys U19:

Martin Wambua of Mombasa lost to Jamin Luvembe (KE) 2/6, 2/6, while Yasin Lila (TZ) beat Euan Nesbitt 6/1, 6/3 to reach the semifinals, where Yasin beat Richard Ooko (KE) 7/5, 6/0, while Amadi Kagoma beat Jamin Luvembe 6/2, 6/4 to set up an exciting finals tomorrow. East African junior tennis stars have arrived for this year’s East Africa Safari Junior Tennis Camp, which is slotted to take place from the 1^st to 14^thAugust 2011. A brainchild of International Tennis Professionals worldwide and managed by Kenya’s own Sadili Oval Sports Academy since its inception 12 years ago, this camp remains the most prestigious event in the tennis calendar in the region, and continues to attract large numbers of talented junior players between 6 and 18 years, from USA, Africa and Europe, to train and also compete in the East African Junior Tennis Open that marks the end of each camp, annually. Previous coaches who have attended the camp include Coach Bill Murray (former coach of Venus and Serena Williams), and Paul Holbach, Coach of Lindsay Davenport. The camp is sponsored by Professional Tennis Registry, Sadili Oval, Tamarind, Global Sports Alliance and Sarova Hotels. The camp shall include a warmup tournament from 6-7 August to take place at Karen Country Club, and it will climax with the East Africa Junior Open, from 12 – 14 August 2011 at Sadili Oval Sports Academy.

Players who have arrived include Henry Ayesiga (ITF 14 and Under Winner in April this year), Dennis Lutaaya number 2 in the Tennis Africa Cup. From Tanzania, top junior Yasin Shabani will lead his team that includes 16 year old Melissa Brown and Ibrahim Kessi. Burundi Tennis Federation is, once again, using the camp as an opportunity to sharpen the technical skills of players, and sent under 16 players: Abdul Ishaka, Ashim Nitunga and Zuberi Moussa, who have joined Nairobi-based compatriots and top juniors Amadi Kagoma (quarterfinalist ITF 18 and Under in February this year and finalist in the Kenya Open mixed doubles), and Shebani Kabura. Players from Mombasa include Martin Wambua, Binal Jayasinghe, Euan Nesbitt and David Nesbitt, while young talent from Victoria Tennis Ricky Omondi, shall ably represent Kisumu.

The event was preceded by a 2-month Star Search, that took place around the East African region, beginning in Nairobi during the Virgin Atlantic Junior Camp in April, then followed by Mombasa, and running through Kisumu, Kampala, Bujumbura, Kigali, Arusha, before completing its journey back in Nairobi in June. Products of this camp include Wimbledon junior Hassan Ndayashimiye, Maurice Wamukowa, Rahab Mbugua, Sonia Mideva, Joab Odera, Aziza Butoyi and Terry Odera (all currently in USA).

Sadili Oval Sports Academy was invited to send two upcoming juniors to this year's 27Th annual USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) Camp in San Francisco, USA. The 13 year-old junior players who were invited to attend included Shebani Kabura (Sadili), and Henry Ayesiga (Sadili). They are accompanied by Dr. Liz Odera (Sadili). The players join 36 other juniors aged between 12 and 14 years, selected out of 250,000 children from all over the United States, who are considered as potential leaders in their communities. Sadili received honorary NJTL Chapter recognition in 2008, for our work with underprivileged children.

The Camp was managed by NJTL Coordinator Emily Sandor and players attended a number of leadership training opportunities in San Francisco and at Sonoma University facilities under Andrew Feldman, USTA Volunteer Development Senior manager, Barry Ford, Director of USTA's Education, Advocacy & Public Affairs Department, Dan Limbago, National Manager of NJTL, and China Fanning, USTA's NJTL Education Manager. Tennis training was very well structured, with the involvement of top professional coaches under the camp Head Coach, Tony Stingley (USTA Diversity Specialist and PTR Professional), with notable inclusion of Enrique Casados (PTR Professional and R &R Luxury Tennis Services), Jean Desdunes (former national coach - player development - women, and now USTA Youth Tennis), Dr. Liz Odera (PTR Professional International Clinician, Tester and Sadili Oval Sports Academy Director) and Donald Widener (PTR Professional and Achievable Dream Academy) in providing wide specialist knowledge towards helping the different levels of players who are attending the camp improve their game. Other Pro/Counsellors included Christina Walker (Colorado), Scarlett Lingafelt (North Carolina) and Veronica Osogo (Kenya).

Players will from tomorrow, play the competitions, where players from Sadili hope to perform well.

Sadili takes Uganda Tournament By Storm

Amadi Kagoma, once again dashed all hopes of a Ugandan win in the boys 18 and Under finals against favourite second seed, favourite David Oringa at the Tennis Africa Cup tournament on Centre Court in Lugogo Stadium. After an initial loss in the first set 3/6, Amadi rallied to take the second set 6/2 to set up and exciting tie break that saw him take the match at 10/8. Oringa, who will be reprsenting Uganda in the All Africa Games in September, said that he enjoyed the match, and hoped to get back to serious training as soon as school closes later this month.
In the boys U14 finals, Sadili's Henry Ayesiga was made to work hard by India's Nikhil Bonapally, before winning the match 6/4, 7/5, in what was the longest match of the tournament. Henry, who won the ITF 14 and Under in April this year, was trailing 2/5 after taking the first set, and had to raise his game considerably to catch up and take over the match. David Nesbitt was semi-finalist while Olivier Kigotho reached the third round.

Harry stichbury took the Boys U10, winning all matches 4/1, 4/2, 4/1 and 4/2 against Nikhil Sanjay, Massa Kevan, Tom Stonewigg, Rendy Mutabola and Sai Charith, respectively. His team mate Tom Stonewigg took position 3 in the same category after losing to Sai Charith 3/4.

13 year old Henry Ayesiga of Sadili Oval is expected to play his best by Nikhil Bonapally of India today in the Boys Under 16 finals of the 2011Tennis Africa Cup ranking tournament in Lugogo Tennis Centre, Kampala Uganda. The ITF East Africa Under 14 champion, won quickly against Derrick Wambisha (Uganda) 4/1, 4/1 and 3^rd seed Joel Engwedu (Uganda) 6/1, 6/0. Unseeded Nikhil had already mauled down two seeds, Edward Birungi of Uganda (seed 3) 4/0, 4/0 in the quarters, and Sadili’s own player and second seed, 14 year old Dennis Lutaaya, 6/1, 7/5 in the semi-finals.

In the boys U18s, Tennis Africa Cup number 1 player and top seed, Malezi’s Amadi Kagoma (Jamin Luvembe Burundi), met his team mate left-handed 6/4, 6/2 at the semi-finals, setting up a serious match against Uganda’s top Under 18 boy, David Oringa (seed 2), who just slipped past Yasin Shabani (seed 3) of Tanzania 6/4, 7/6 (6) in a nail-biting performance that drew many tennis enthusiasts.

In the Under 10 category, Tom Stonewigg advanced to the second round, losing to Jamilo Kiregeya in a closely contested match, while compatriot, Harry Stichbury lost in the first round to finalist Francis Akankwase of Uganda Schools 1/4 3/5. In the Boys Under 14s, David Nesbitt of Sadili beat Enock Kizito 4/0, 4/0, and Joel Endwedu 4/1, 4/0 to advance to the semi-finals, losing to Job Wambisha 4/3, 4/3 in a tight match. Team mate, Olivier Kigitho beat Michael Koultek 4/2, 4/2 to reach the quarterfinals, losing 0/4, 2/4 to Archie Davis.

In the Boys U16, Euan Nesbitt easily went past Ayub Namawondo 6/1, 6/1, to set up a long and close match against team mate and second seed, losing a close Dennis Lutaaya, 4/6, 4/6, a sign of serious challenge in the coming weeks of tournament.

Sadili team, comprising of Malezi school and rookie Banda School players descended on the inter-schools tennis championships in Lugogo Stadium Kampala this weekend seeking glory. Malezi School is using this tournament to prepare to defend their national schools title for the 12^th year running.

This premier tournament, which is a Tennis Africa Cup ranking event, is hosted annually by the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association, attracted 112 players from Uganda, as well as upcoming juniors from the neighboring countries.

Hassan In Close Call

Sadili's own Hassan continued to impress pundits with his performance at Junior Wimbledon, being the only wild card to go through the qualifying round successfully to enter the second week and making his first kill in the first round of the main draw, and bouncing into the second round with gusto yesterday. After grabbing a strong first set 6-4 and setting up to grab the second, Hassan had to take a rain break at 5-5 against his favoured opponent, Frederico Ferre Silva in what was a nail-biting experience for the crowd that gathered in the dreary English weather to watch an unexpectedly exciting Junior Wimbledon match.

As they returned to resume their match a couple of hours later, it appeared that the news had spread, a little (and only) African boy was playing some inspirational tennis and his match was "a must watch". The stands were full now, and the atmosphere was electric. For Hassan, this was yet another chance to play his best, and he did not let his supporters down, giving as good as he got, varying hos shots between flats, slices, drop shots and topspin, in what was considered by many, and amazingly positive change of game, from the standard fare that has become the style of players at the Grand Slam. Hassan's opponent, Frederico Ferre Silva came into this round having upset the 12th seed of the tournament, and it showed in the level of play, which Hassan made up for with "gutsyness" and sheer wit.

The second set went to Frederico, 7-5 and was followed by a closely contested final set, that saw Hassan lose the set and match at 4-6, down, but not out! This match raised a lot of interest in African Tennis and was widely covered by media. Hassan becomes the first Burundian to play a Wimbledon Junior and an inspiration to all, especially the kids of his former training academy, Sadili Oval, on the outskirts of Kibera, Africa's largest slum, who received a blow by blow account through friends and Hassan himself (afterwards).

As Wimbledon giants Tomas Berdych, Serena and Venus Williams tumbled, East Africans had reason to smile as Hassan Ndayishimiye of Burundi today successfully made it through the first round of Wimbledon, beating Mattias Sborowitz of China, 6-3, 6-4 in the junior boys draw. Hassan, who had to go through a tough qualifying draw that saw him play and win against World class juniors,
He is poised to meet Frederico Frere Silva of Portugal, who beat the 12th seed of the boys tournament to earn a second round berth.

Hassan, hails from Buyenzi, a slum in the heart of Burundi, where his father, a coach at a local tennis club, first introduced him to tennis. Hassan was at 9 years, spotted by a international professional player, Martin Dzuwa, playing in the back courts of the club, and he persuaded a local member, Kassie McIlvaine, to send him to a humble little 3-court tennis centre at the edge of Kibera, Africa's largest slum in Nairobi, Kenya called Sadili Oval Sports Academy, where he honed his skills and the watchful eye of PTR Professional Dr. Liz Odera, and finally went to formal school, for 4 years, before returning home.

Hassan received a scholarship to the ITF Centre in Pretoria, where he has been for the last two years, and which changed his tennis life immensely, as he was able to play many top level tournaments in Africa and more lately in Europe. Many of his friends and opponents alike, will remember Hassan, and how he lit up the tennis stage in Kenya, as a little boy, challenging and often winning matches against top juniors, many three to four times his age. Hassan's stab at Wimbledon is an inspiration to many children of Buyenzi, many of whom, like him, work as hitters for the rich at the local tennis club. For them now, the sky is the limit. Kassie continues to watch and care for Hassan, and she was there to watch him win his first singles round at Wimbledon. Sadili Oval former player, Hassan Ndayashimiye, will bring the little tennis programme to the forefront this month, when he plays qualifiers at the coming Wimbledon Grand Slam in England. Many Kenyans will remember how he scillintated the tennis scene between 2004 and 2007.

Hassan was born on 12th August 1994, the son of a hitter at a local tennis club in Bujumbura. Hassan started to play early in life, finding solace from the slums, where there was very little happening, and earning some little money each day from picking balls and later hitting with senior members, and taking home to his mother to help out with daily survival. Everyone knew Hassan for his spritely and sunny personality, and he quicky became loved by members and visitors alike. It was this that got him noticed by Kassie McIlvaine, who was working with CARE are Country Director. Hassan was only 8 years old at the time, and already she could see his talent, and knew that he could go far with the right help and change of circumstances. In fact, Kassie often joked with Hassan about , "When you get to Wimbledon...."
In 2003, An ITF East and Central Africa event was held in Bujumbura, and Kassie, always an avid tennis fan, went out to watch. There she met a couple of tennis players from Kenya. She admired their game, and got talking to them about places to play and study in Kenya. She finally made up her mind to bring Hassan to Dr. Liz Odera at Sadili Oval and the adjoining Malezi School, after chatting with Martin Dzuwa, who won an ITF Money Circuit later that year. Hassan's first comment when he landed in JKIA and met Dr. Liz was, "now this is my home, I am going to live here, and I am going to beat everybody in tennis, even the biggest and the best". And indeed, after a painful beginning in which he struggled to adjust his strokes, grow a little stronger (Kassie placed an order for extra milk every day), and stay committed to serious training, Hassan went on to humble many unfortunate local players from under 12 to under 16 years. Hassan stayed at Sadili for four years before returning home, performing well at an ITF U14 event, and qualifying for a place at the ITF Centre in Pretoria, where he has worked under the watchful eye of Dermott Sweeney and Margaret Owen.
His performance continued to improve, playing regional tournaments for his country (AJC, each year, with his compatriot Amadi Kagoma, who is now at Sadili Oval Talent Training Academy), and in the European Circuit. Last month, he reached a record high of 113 ITF rank, making him the two top East African to reach this level in the last 20 years, the other being Vitulli of Kenya, who is now a student at Georgia State University in the USA. Kassie's belief in Hassan has come true, and, while ITF provides for his schooling, training and tournaments, she continues to work hard to support Hassan, treating him as her own son, following his progress closely, buying him racquets, kit and sometimes arranging for his transportation when it is not available. His former coach and mentor, Liz Odera and his close friends in Sadili provide him with important moral support and advise, firmly believing that Hassan will make it in the end.

Sadili's Shebani Kabura took a break from class to grab the top boys 14 and Under position from his team mate and tournament favourite, Henry Ayesiga at this year's Wanjiku Ngaruiya Tennis Tournament, held at JD Tennis Academy, Nairobi. The match, which was one of the longest of the day, earned Shebani a win in 3 sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Shebani has earlier won against another team mate and newest addition to the academy, 12 year old Olivier in two straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The Academy participated in JOHN PACKARD FAMILY CUP a junior soccer tournament in Kibera, featuring in three categories, Boys U-14 & 16 and Girls under 15.

The boy’s U -14 team started their campaign by thumping Red Arrows 6 -1 and tied with the slum soccer 1 – 1. In the knock out stage, Sadili boys pip (defeated) their bitter rivals Shofco Juniors on a penalty shoot out, this happened after Shofco equalized on a controversial goal leading to 1 – 1 normal time scores. In the quarter finals we lost to Makina youth who capitalized on our mistakes and the chances that we squandered. Comments from the officials and all who attended agreed that it was like a final match, as it wooed all onlookers and made the referee sweat as he officiated. This match killed the anxiety of watching the finals which turned out not to be as exciting as the Sadili boys had carried the day with the match they had displayed earlier.

The U-16 boys on the other hand had more matches to play on group stages. Playing Gyff, we won 2-0 then thrashed Lazio 3-2. We then drew 2-2 to Uweza at a ragged Toi primary pitch and on muddy Woodley ground 1-1 to Shofco Juniors. The team also lost in the quarter final to a fancied Atlas FC 4-2.

In the girls category, Sadili had a good run and looked like the tournament's favorite. In group stages, Sadili beat Kibera girl soccer 1- 0 before aging out Terror Squad 3 – 0. In the quarter finals, Sadili Queens thrashed Uweza Foundation 7 – 0. In the semi-finals, due to overconfidence and hence loss of focus, Sadili drew 0-0 to Carolina for Kibera. This led to penalties where Sadili lost 2-1 and had to play the third position. They won with ease against Hamlets 1-0 on a one sided match after Sadili captain EVELINE AICHO was awarded the “golden boot” for being the top scorer.

The Virgin Atlantic Sadili Tour 2011 reach its peak today, after a series of wins at three events of school meets, with Kenya’s defending tennis champions, Malezi School, today met their match at Millfield School, where they played their national counterparts in both doubles and singles for the first round of a two-day series, which was played to Millfield’s very well maintained grass courts.

Amadi Kagoma (Number 1) lost both his singles to player 1 and player 3 of Millfied, (6-1) and (6-1) respectively. Richard Ooko Onyango (Number 2) also lost both his singles to player 2 (6-0) and player 5 (6-2). Jamin Luvembe won his first singles against player 3 (6-0), but lost his second singles to 2-6 to player 4 of Millfield. Henry Ayesiga held his own, winning both his singles 6-0 and 6-3 to give Malezi much needed points. In the doubles, Amadi/Luvembe won against Millfield’s first pair 6-4 in a very closely contested match, before an enthusiastic tennis players and coaches. The final scores in matches were 6 – 4 to Millfield. International professional, Dr. Liz Odera, who accompanied the team commented, "this is the level of challenge that we must constantly seek to build our team, I am confident that, after playing on grass against some of the best juniors in England, we can only get better."

Matchplay continues tomorrow, Friday, on hard court, where Malezi hopes to gain the advantage, should the weather hold. Millfield remains the only team to seriously challenge Malezi on this Virgin Atlantic-sponsored tour. Malezi Boys, who has successfully won against Oundle, Haileybury and Wess Cathedral Schools with relative ease, and is seeking to begin her campaign for yet another national boys’ title in July 2011.

Malezi School boys blanked out Haileybury today with a 9 - 1 win total in both singles and doubles, while the girls were no contest, losing both doubles matches 0-2 in what was bravely fought but totally overwhelmed situations. The Malezi Boys team, comprising of Amadi Kagoma, Euan Nesbitt, Jamin Luvembe, Richard Onyango and Henry Ayesiga, made short work of their opponents in both singles and doubles, while, David Nesbitt improved, just dropping one game to lose a tight match against number 5 Hailbury players in singles. Portia Morey (Hillcrest) and partner Lornah Bhweje (Malezi) were unable to stop their competition, while youthful Emily Stonewigg/Georgia Taylor worked hard and fough bravely before succumbing to older and stronger opposition from Haileybury.

The Banda and Hillcrest players will be returning to Kenya tomorrow, while the Malezi boys will travel on to Millfield School in Somerset, where they are expected to train and play against the top juniors there for the next three days.

Malezi School grabbed an early lead in the Virgin Atlantic Sadili Emerging Players Tour 2011 today, by blanking Oundle School 7 - 4 in a well contested meet that saw the boys take 3 out of 4 singles and 2 out of 3 doubles, while the girls won 1 out of two singles and 1 out of two doubles. The Malezi Boys team, comprising of Amadi Kagoma, Euan Nesbitt, Jamin Luvembe, Richard Onyango and Henry Ayesiga, made short work of their opponents in both singles and doubles, with newcomer, David Nesbitt fighting hard to stay in the game against a more experienced opposition.

Malezi School, who are national schools champions for the last 9 years, joined forces with players from Banda and school and Hillcrest Secondary who train under the Sadili Oval sports academy banner, to offer well needed experience to 10 upcoming talented juniors in tennis. The team's youngest players, Emily Stonewigg and Georgia Taylor (Banda), braved strong opporsition to win one match and lose the other, showing technical strength that should help them compete effectively in the IAPS Tennis competitions this term in Kenya. Long serving member of Sadili and team member of Hillcrest Secondary's International Schools league winning pair, Portia Morey, won her number one singles matches proving her strength mental and technical strength in the game.

The families of three players who excelled in the just ended Kenya/Brazil Football League have every reason to smile after their beloved talents earned an all paid-up trip to Brazil.
The trio, two boys and a girl all under 15 years will leave the country later this year for South America where they will receive advanced soccer training at the Palmeiras Sports Academy in Brazil.
John Macharia from Korogocho village, Kevin Owino (Kibera slums) and 13 year old Elizabeth Majuma from Kibera were all smiles when their names were picked by the Brazilian Football instructors who have been in the country for the last 10 days.

The Brazil Kenya football league Grand finals played at the Nyayo National Stadium left most Kenyans in awe as the best two teams from the best two centres met at a thriller in Nyayo Stadium. Tension was rife within both camps before the game and as usual flashes of lost chances would not fail to cultivate a rather technical game that could have already been sealed within the first half. The Green Ligi Ndogo was trailing 2-0 after a superb shot from Kevin Owino in the 9^th minute and another well struck drive by Onyango Erick. Things however turned sour for the blue and white Sports For Life when Gicovi Julian started the rout in the 37^th minute and Shaban Mohammed placed the ball past the goal line in the 39^th minute. It seemed a rebirth of the semifinal tie that pitted Nature and Sports and Ligi Ndogo when Ogutu Chris hit the back of the net not once but twice in the 47^th ad 53^rd minutes respectively to deny Sports for Life their Maiden trophy for 2011 infront of such a charismatic crowd, from Brazil Olympian and Expo Ambassador, Ms. Adriana Behar, and Her Excellency Anna Marie Sampaio Fernandes, Brazil Ambassador. Sadili Queens kept our supporters chanting having already lifted the girls U15 trophy, while Sadili Nature and Sports Boys were 2nd runners-up

Chris Kibet must have got the better of goalkeeper Levis Osena’s loss of concentration when his superbly carved freekick deflected against Brian Bwire’s head to slither into the net in the 14th minute. He went ahead to strike a neat drive into the back of the net at the 27th minute when Brian Bwire failed to contain his increasing pressure. On the other hand Kennedy Moya could see his slow drive being cleared at the edge of the area when all was clear for a goal that could have sealed the game for the Nature and sports in the 16th minute. Ball possession may be an art unique to nature and sports but their goal hungry traits were switched off in this encounter.

Jamin Luvembe, Charles Onyansi and Jesse Mwendia got the best of the already back-trotting Lavington United side that only showed quality in perseverance character. Charles Onyansi slotted in the Penalty at the 5th minute when Jamin Luvembe was brought down inside the area. Mwendia Jesse shook the net in the 19th minute after a neat pass from Duncan Ochieng. Jamine Luvembe then sealed

The warm equatorial morning would set stage for a one sided affair between these two teams who have always met at the top league. The best of matches of the day would see Kaka’s Charges miss two very important chances that would have left Ligi licking their wounds .Brian Ochieng, George Mwendwa scored for the Young Talents and Chris Ogutu’s 2 and Julian’s 1 sealed the deal.

Kevin Owino’s 2 goals, Charles Maguto’s 1 and Erick Onyango’s 1 could see a hapless Milimani primary out of the prestigious trophy. But the future is beckoning for Sports for Life. An easy match at the quarters may cause them trouble at the hot semis next week. Lets wait and see.

Wario Wako and Felix Njuguna’s goals would lead the pack in tormenting the Hope Stars goalkeeper’s confidence. The duel became so tense that even the referee mistakenly handed out a yellow card in place of the suspension card. The midday sun not only did shine on Lavington United but also worked to scorch the Hope Stars.

St. Pauls 1 Nature and Sports 3

Tightest game of the day. Age verification and careful officiating became a necessity in this game that saw the teams proceed to post match penalties just after a 60 minute low shot from St. Paul’s John Mwangi that would have seen Nature and Sports out. It was curled so neatly that Javiras Okwanyo had to stretch his fingertips to deflect it into the side net. St. Pauls only converted one of their chances while Nature and Sports saw all their 3 spot kicks safely past the goalie and into the net.

Semi final action action continues next Saturday 19^th March 2011 at Langata High School.

12 - 24 March 2011: Brazil Coaching Clinics and Talent Selection

The Brazil Kenya League quarterfinalists were offered two weeks free training at Sadili Oval under the watchful eyes of 6 Brazilian national coaches, Nelson Rodrigues da Cunha, Guilherme de Almeida Fadlalla, de Sousa Lima, José Jober, Prof Walter and William Rodrigues also benefiting were the local coaches from the football clubs that brought in teams for the tournament who had a training workshop with the Brazilian Coaches. A total of 73 boys, 26 girls and 12 coaches beneffited from this training. Gor Mahia also got a chance to get specialised training for one afternoon at Sadili too!

The coaches selected 2 boys and 1 girl from the training sessions, who will have the opportunity to train in Brazil for 3 months later in the year, they are:

Five girls teams who participated in the Sisterhood World Cup 2010, seized the opportunity to show that girls can also take some initiative and join a previously Boys Only league, by playing a one-day football event.

Sadili Queens were unbeaten garnering 10 points overall, while God's Last Appeal edged out Sunderland closely to take the 1st runner-up position.
